The WWE reportedly has asked Shawn Michaels to return to the ring for Wrestlemania 32. Michaels has yet to confirm, but if he does these 3 potential opponents would make for a great match-up.

Shawn Michaels officially retired in 2010 after he lost to The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26. Shortly after his retirement he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Since then Michaels has made appearances in the way of backstage segments and special guest referee appearances. However, Michaels has not had an actual match since 2010.

The WWE is now trying to change all that. They recently reportedly asked Michaels to wrestle at Wrestlemania 32 next year in Dallas. Michaels has been enjoying retirement, but can Mr. Wrestlemania really stay away from the ring?

If he does accept the WWE’s invitation, which hopefully he does, then who will he be going up against? Here are three possible opponents Michaels may be kicking in the chin at Wrestlemania 32.

1. Stone Cole Steve Austin

This matchup would be a throwback treat for WWE fans. Two historic titans of the ring going head-to-head. Michaels and Austin in the same ring will bring in cash by the boatloads for the WWE. Fans of wrestling who have not stayed up to date with the WWE will have a reason to tune in to the April 3, 2016 Pay-Per-View event. Wrestlemania 32 will be held in Texas, which is where Stone Cold Steve Austin currently resides. So if nothing else, Stone Cold will certainly be in the neighborhood.

2. Daniel Bryan

This is the match that should have happened in the 2013 storyline between these two. Shawn Michaels trained Daniel Bryan during his early years, which set up the perfect “student vs. teacher” storyline. The only physical altercation these two saw in 2013 was when Bryan put Michaels in his “Yes” lock after Michaels approached him with an apology. The storyline ended there without an actual match ever taking place between the two. But with Michaels making a potential return to the ring, could this dream match-up finally become a reality for WWE fans?

3.The Undertaker

Michaels fell to the Undertaker in 2010 at Wrestlemania 26. Due to the stipulations of the match, Michaels had to leave the WWE for good and hang up the wrestling boots. This matchup could be an attempt to attain some sort of closure on Michaels’ part. Perhaps a distressed Michaels returns for one last match against the man who put him out of a career. Maybe Michaels can’t stand that he went out on a loss. Even though he left the WWE on good terms at the time, he has had six years to mull it over and maybe he the loss is beginning to not sit so well with him. A one-time return match for redemption would really bring in the viewers and make for a highly entertaining match.

So who will Michaels face off against at Wrestlemania 32? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain, if Michaels does decide to return to the ring, then Texas will be hearing the sweet sweet sounds of chin music all night long on April 3rd, 2016.
