Taj Gibson on Derrick Rose injury scare: Lord, please (Video)
By Mark Carman
Derrick Rose appears to be back to his old MVP ways, but Taj Gibson is still skeptical every time his teammate takes a spill on the court.
Just over four minutes into Derrick Rose’s first playoff game since 2012, Rose was fouled by Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Carter-Williams and laid sprawled out on the floor as the United Center crowd gasped and feared the worst.
Rose looked like he may have re-injured one of his surgically repaired knees or perhaps tweaked an ankle while taking extra time to get up. Rose would say after the game he was just “tired as hell” and Joakim Noah told him to “take his time” in a “veteran move.”
When Rose was back on his feet though, he didn’t move the same, had a noticeable limp coming up the court and was replaced by Tony Snell a minute later with just over six minutes left in the first quarter. Rose sat on the bench, then went to the locker room. Anything was possible. Would he return at all?

But with 8:06 left in the second quarter, Rose re-entered the game and started to play like 2011 MVP Derrick Rose. There was a driving lay-up, a nifty pull-up, a dunk, a reverse lay-up, another lay-up, arms waved at the glowing crowd and his teammates on the bench. Rose picked up his third foul with 1:37 left in the first half and headed to the bench to a standing ovation. The Bulls had a nine-point lead, their star back and at least some of their swagger.
Taj Gibson was asked what it was like for him when Rose went down. Was he worried? Turn out Gibson is just like Bulls fans.
Rose makes the game so much easier for his teammates. Along with his 23 points, Rose had seven assists.
Game two of the series is Monday night. Rose called it “like a back-to-back” since he has been out so long and it takes his body awhile to recover. He said he planned to spend Sunday off his feet getting ready for the next test. A veteran move.
