Woman at Cubs-Pirates game gets hit in the head with a foul ball

A baseball fan was struck in the back of the head by a foul ball during the Cubs-Pirates game and required medical attention.

At the game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs there was an incredibly scary scene. While Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro was up to bat, he fouled a ball that went straight behind the plate and hit a woman  in the back of the head.

The fan was going working her way to her seat and had her back turned to the game and didn’t see the ball coming. Baseballs are hard and being hit when they’re tossed your way hurts, let alone when they’re going as fast as that ball was.

The damage that could’ve been done is frightening to think about. The game was stopped so she could be attended to, and that delay lasted about 22 minutes. Eventually she was taken away on a stretcher, presumably to a hospital and to seek further medical attention.

This injury is frightening, and on behalf of everyone at FanSided we hope that she is okay and makes a full recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

Both teams extended their thoughts and prayers for the fan as well.

[UPDATE] The fan has been released from the hospital.
