Kyrie Irving spoke about his relationship with LeBron James after the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Boston Celtics in their first-round series-opener on Sunday.
Sunday’s Cleveland Cavaliers-Boston Celtics matchup marked the first playoff game LeBron James and Kyrie Irving played together.

However, with how comfortable James and Irving looked playing with each other in the Cavs’ win, one might have thought they’d been through many postseason battles together.
Irving dropped a game-high 30 points and LeBron poured in 20 points with seven assists and six rebounds.
Irving spoke about he and James’ connection with TNT’s Rachel Nichols after the game, saying that each is comfortable going to battle with the other.
"“Nothing is going to be perfect, we’re human beings….There’s obviously a wall up that we all have, and then a trust factor, when you’re going through the trenches with someone. You’re looking down to your left and your right, then you know who’s there for you. He knows that I absolutely have his back, and he has mine.”"
There’s no doubt that Irving and James are the focal points of the Cavs and it’s absolutely crucial that the two are comfortable with each other if this team is going to win a title.
It seems all is well from a chemistry standpoint with the Cavaliers, which certainly was not the case earlier in the season. Irving raved about his experience playing alongside his teammates in his postseason debut.
"“It’s the greatest feeling in the world, as simply as I can put that, being out there competing with my brothers, playing at the highest level, everyone is watching– it’s something you want to be a part of from when you were a kid. The best experience for me is just being with the guys that are on this team now, we have six– I think six champions on this team, which is unbelievable.”"
If the Cavs’ players can continue to remain on the same page, it’s hard to envision this team getting eliminated prior to the NBA Finals.
Cleveland is absolutely loaded with talent — with James and Irving leading the way — and this team is clearly hungry to make a playoff run.
The Cavs’ next game against the Celtics comes at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
