Everyone in the sports world knows who Brittney Griner is. If you have ever turned the channel to Sportscenter, you have seen her swatting opponents and averaging a ridiculous number of blocks when she was in college at Baylor. Now she’s in the news for a different reason.
According to reports, police were called to Griner’s Phoenix home where she resides with fellow WNBA star and fiancee Glory Johnson. The call was for a domestic dispute in which the two had been arguing and both had ‘minor physical injuries’ when police arrived.
Both Johnson and Griner were arrested and booked by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and were released at 4 a.m. Thursday.
There was still enough time for the women’s basketball star and reigning WNBA champion to get in a mug shot and become yet another famous athlete with an embarrassing front-to-side view picture against the police station wall.
Griner and Johnson have been engaged to be married since last August and the two haven’t had any public issues like this until now. Arguments happen in relationships, but domestic assaults are something that you never want to see with a couple.
The former Baylor Bear plays for the Phoenix Mercury while Johnson plays for the Tulsa Shock — Johnson has been in the league for just one year longer than Griner.
Despite this being the first time the couple has had any legal issues regarding domestic violence, people have to remember Griner’s history of having a bad temper and using physical violence to solve it.
Just take a look at how she took out her anger on a fellow college basketball player when she was still at Baylor:
She faced some discipline for that, but let’s hope this domestic dispute wasn’t all on her as well.
