Mark Sanchez weighs in on a curious decision by the Philadelphia Eagles, signing Tim Tebow.

Nobody is really sure how the Philadelphia Eagles plan to use newly acquired quarterback Tim Tebow. Tebow is buried in third or fourth on a crowded Eagles quarterback depth chart, meaning his best chance to contribute will require Chip Kelly getting a little creative.
Mark Sanchez doesn’t believe that Tebow is going to have much of an impact at all. In an interview with Kirstie Chiappelli of Sporting News, Sanchez that Tebow was brought in to serve as a camp arm while Sam Bradford continues to recover from a torn ACL.
"“He’s obviously a great guy, he works hard. And we needed another guy to throw while Sam’s [Bradford] still recovering. So that’s the reason (for the signing), at least as explained to me. We’re excited about the upcoming year and I think we have a great group.”"
While it’s a bit odd to say a new teammate won’t be having a big impact, it’s hard to argue with Sanchez’s reasoning. Tebow doesn’t have any guaranteed salary on a one-year deal, making him a long shot to even make the roster, let alone contribute.
Tebow does have some skills, but throwing ability is not one of them. It would take another injury to Bradford, something happening to Sanchez himself, and even perhaps an injury to Matt Barkley for Tebow to have a chance at playing time as a quarterback during the regular season.
Of course, that’s just the situation as it stands now. Given the crazy offseason Kelly and the Eagles have already had, it wouldn’t be a surprise if all of those players ended up traded elsewhere and Marcus Mariota ends up the starting quarterback in the fall.
If it’s not at quarterback, how can Tebow in fact have an impact on the Eagles this season? The two best positions for him would seem to be tight end or fullback, but he’s still a longshot to make the roster either way.
Perhaps Tebow’s best fit would be as a runner in short-yardage situations, a role Kelly could certainly incorporate into his offense. Provided Tebow has stayed in shape, he certainly has running ability and great size, and he could add another wrinkle near the goal line.
The Eagles have been anything but predictable this offseason, so we’ll have to wait awhile to see if Sanchez is right.
