The San Diego Chargers have six picks in the 2015 draft. Here is the list.

The San Diego Chargers are an odd team in a number of ways. For one, there has been a constant buzz going for about a month that they may be shopping Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers. And they’ve at least done their due diligence on Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, though who knows if that was just for show, or real.

But they’re interesting for other reasons as well. They may not be playing their home games in San Diego beyond this season. That possibility is probably not lost on anyone by now.

And thirdly, they are a team which has finished with identical 9-7 records in consecutive seasons, as a somewhat underachieving, yet at the same time overachieving squad in head coach Mike McCoy’s first two seasons at the helm.

Talent abounds on the roster. Outside linebacker Melvin Ingram could break out any second now, if only he could stay healthy and on the field. There’s also more than enough talent on the offensive side of the ball, yet it seems there’s always something lacking.

Addressing the offensive line (the Chargers used a million different centers in 2014, and that’s only a slight exaggeration) and running back positions is certainly not out of the question. Nor is any spot on defense, aside from the safety spot occupied by Pro Bowler Eric Weddle.

There are more than enough impact players on the roster for this to be a 10 or 11 win team. And yet they tend to underperform, as has been the franchise’s story throughout the years.

No one, it seems, can change that fact.

But pinpointing what direction general manager Tom Telesco will go on draft day appears to be an exercise in futility more than anything. He could go any which way and it would not be much of a surprise.

Here are the six picks the Chargers hold in this weekend’s draft, which begins Thursday evening.
