The San Francisco 49ers have needs all across the board, so they will be looking in all rounds to try to take the best player available or get the best value through trade.

The 49ers are in the unenviable position of having holes all over their team, whether those holes are due to retirement, free agent departures, or general gaps across their lineup. The team will likely be employing a “best player available” strategy, but will be particularly happy to land players at wide receiver, inside linebacker and along both lines.

Here is how the San Francisco 49ers draft looks right now:

First round #15 (#15 in round)

Second round #46 (#14 in round)

Third round #79 (#15 in round)

Fourth round #126 (#27 in round, from Denver Broncos), #132 (#33 in round, compensatory)

Fifth round #151 (#15 in round)

Sixth round #190 (#14 in round)

Seventh round #246 (#29 in round, from Indianapolis Colts), #254 (#37 in round, compensatory)

The 49ers have a lot of options when the 15th pick rolls around. One player who has been mocked to the team frequently has been Louisville wide receiver DeVante Parker, a reliable and physical possession receiver whose big-play ability has been overlooked during the lead up to the draft. Other receivers, like Central Florida’s Breshad Perriman and USC Nelson Agholor, could end up as the team’s selection here.

However, the team may find it to be the best option to go with a selection along either the offensive or defensive lines. LSU’s La’el Collins would be a solid choice at offensive tackle who would provide a sturdy, if relatively low-ceiling, cornerstone to protect Colin Kaepernick’s blind side and contribute in the running game. More powerful run blockers like Miami’s Ereck Flowers or Pittsburgh’s T.J. Clemmings could also fall of the board here at 15.

Along the defensive line, tackles like Washington’s Danny Shelton would be an absolute steal for the 49ers at 15, whereas Texas’ Malcom Brown might end up as a bit of a reach. In either event, the 49ers will likely find a player that fulfills a need while not losing anything in terms of value.

The second round would be the best place for the team to try to find an inside linebacker in the wake of the dual retirements of future Hall-of-Famer Patrick Willis and one-hit wonder Chris Borland. Players like Mississippi State’s Benardrick McKinney and Miami’s Denzel Perryman would give the 49ers an instant starter from within the linebacking core.

The team could be best suited trading down and acquiring as many picks as possible. But with nine choices already, they do have the mobility to move up if needed.
