Dante Fowler, who was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars, said he feels like he was the best player in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft for the second year in a row. In 2014, the Jaguars went with quarterback Blake Bortles.

In 2015, the Jagaurs went with the other side of the ball, and draft defensive end Dante Fowler, Jr. from in-state Florida Gators.

“They got Blake Bortles last year, and I feel like that was a great quarterback they could win with, and I’m here now. So our job now is to win, so that’s what we’re going to focus on,” Fowler said.

Fowler was the first defensive player taken in the draft after Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota were selected. Since both of those players decided to stay at home he was the first player to walk across the stage and meet NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Fowler was also adamant that he was the best player in the NFL Draft.

“I feel like I am the best guy in this draft,” Fowler said. “I want to come in and make an impact that I’m supposed to make.

Despite his confidence, which some might classify as over the top since many had Leonard Williams as the best player in the draft, Fowler remained polite and cordial while expressing his excitement about the future.

As for the role he will have with the Jaguars he was still uncertain.

“I don’t know what my job is yet, but whatever my job is I’m going to do that job 100 percent,” Fowler said.

Fowler admitted that he was originally a Baltimore Ravens fan because of Ray Lewis, but said he was always intrigued by the Jaguars.

“Fred Taylor was my favorite running back, so I watched him a lot,” Fowler said.

After playing his college football in Florida, Fowler is excited to stay in the Sunshine State.

“It is going to feel great to stay in Florida and be able to put on an NFL uniform,” Fowler said.
