The end of April has come, which means we’re finally able to see past the white noise of the early season and identify some trends. Obviously, anyone can have a good or bad month, and it’s not necessarily indicative of their talent level for the rest of the year. (Remember Chris Shelton?) But sometimes, a strong April start is the beginning of something big for a young up-and-coming team.

Could that team be the Houston Astros?

After one month, the Astros sit in first place in the competitive AL West, and their 14-7 record is fifth-best in the major leagues. Yes, the same Astros who have been borderline unwatchable for years now. The young players are producing, the team is stocked with real major league contributors, and they’re thriving in this young season. They’ve ridden the strength of their starting pitching, as well as some surprising contributors, to the top of the division. But can they stay there? Or is this just an early season mirage? Let’s take a look at the 2015 Astros with the glass half full, and with the glass half empty.
