NFL Draft 2015 grades: Indianapolis Colts select Phillip Dorsett
With the 29th-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected University of Miami (FL) receiver Phillip Dorsett. Dorsett was expected by most draft pundits to land in the second round, but the Colts decided to snatch him up before Thursday night was complete.
Grade: D
Dorsett is a decent prospect, but he was not what the Colts needed, nor was he the best available player. Indianapolis desperately needs some help on defense, both in the secondary and linebacking core. With Jalen Collins and Landon Collins on the board, general manager Ryan Grigson had a great opportunity to get a key piece. Instead, he took a carbon copy of T.Y. Hilton.
With Andrew Luck at the helm, any receiver with ability is going to look like a Hall of Famer. Why not wait until the second or third round to take an offensive weapon? Heck, even if Grigson wanted to go offense, take an offensive lineman! The Colts can’t block outside of Anthony Castanzo, and could have taken T.J. Clemmings out of Pittsburgh.
Grigson has had a bad history in the draft, and this pick will be scrutinized by many. Indianapolis must help Luck with a better defense and improved protection. It failed to accomplish either task.
