Arizona Cardinals listening to trade offers for Michael Floyd
Michael Floyd just had his fifth-year option picked up by the Arizona Cardinals but that isn’t stopping them from listening to trade offers for the wide receiver.
The Arizona Cardinals picked up the fifth-year option for fourth-year receiver Michael Floyd but that doesn’t mean they’re planning a long and happy future together in the desert.

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic the team is letting it be known they are open to listening to offers for the former first round pick who went No. 13 to the Cardinals in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame.
Floyd is coming off a season that saw him score a career-high six touchdowns but his 47 receptions and 841 yards were down from his breakout season in 2013.
Floyd had his breakout season as two years ago when he had 65 catches for 1,041 yards and five touchdowns but saw his production drop with the injury to Carson Palmer that saw Drew Stanton and later Ryan Lindley assume the starting quarterback job.
He has carved out a role as the No. 2 option to Larry Fitzgerald on the team but the team’s willingness to listen to offers for him suggest the team doesn’t think he can grow into a No. 1 role and they believe second-year receiver Jon Brown is ready to take a big step after a promising rookie season. Brown caught 48 passes for 696 yards and five touchdowns after he was taken in the third round.
Floyd is a solid receiver but if the Cardinals don’t believe he can be a difference maker then they would be wise to move him before his value gets any lower. With the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft getting underway Friday night, the Cardinals likely will prefer to get a trade done tonight or before the draft resumes on Saturday to get a pick they can use on a receiver to fill his spot on the roster.
So the timing is crucial here because if Floyd is still on the Cardinals after Saturday, the chances of him being moved before the season would be reduced. It doesn’t eliminate any chance of him being traded, but the return for the Cardinals wouldn’t be as valuable with the draft over.
I don’t think the Cardinals have much bargaining power here because I don’t see teams lining up to give a second or third round pick for Floyd and they may be lucky to get a fifth round pick for the former first rounder.
