After being openly unhappy about the coaching situation in Sacramento, DeMarcus Cousins could be the target of a trade to the Boston Celtics.

By making the playoffs this past season, the Boston Celtics exceeded expectations as they were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league once again. However, 38-year-old baby-faced head coach Brad Stevens seemed to work his magic in order to get this team to the postseason before being eliminated in just four games.

After the 2013-14 season in which the Celtics went an embarrassing 25-57, not many people gave Stevens much time left because they didn’t think his coaching style fit into NBA play. He proved the doubters wrong and improved the Celtics by 15 games as they locked up the No. 7 seed in the 2015 NBA Playoffs.

Winning 40 games seems to be just the start for Stevens. He might be one of the youngest coaches in the league, younger than some players, but he has shown that he has what it takes to win at this level.

Now that there are some solid pieces in place, like Isaiah Thomas, Jared Sullinger and Marcus Smart, the team is looking to build a winner yet again — to the likes of the one they had when Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce were all in town.

Since Stevens has proven he can win, the organization is looking to build a future around him, possibly starting with DeMarcus Cousins.

According to ESPN‘s Marc Stein, the Celtics would be very willing to trade their plethora of draft picks, and maybe more, for Cousins from the Sacramento Kings.

Cousins will be entering his second year of the four-year, $65 million contract he signed last season and the Kings have been open to moving anyone on the roster for the right price. Head coach George Karl even said that no one is safe, but the team would like to keep “Boogie” Cousins if at all possible — even though the two have a strained relationship.

Karl and Cousins have been on opposite ends since the beginning of the head coach’s tenure a few months back. Cousins was unhappy with the way the team handled the firing of Mike Malone and hiring of George Karl.

The veteran coach seems to be a no-nonsense type of guy and that’s something that doesn’t resonate well with Cousins.

Many believe the team is trying to shop the 24-year-old superstar despite his average of 24.1 points and 12.7 rebounds this past season.

It might be smart for the team to keep Cousins aboard instead of an aging Karl, but the Celtics might just put in the right offer in which Sacramento won’t be able to refuse.

Interesting couple of months ahead for NBA trades and free agents.
