The New England Patriots choosing Malcom Brown with the final pick in the first round, they may have just found a new anchor on the interior defensive line.

The New England Patriots do not exactly need anybody this year. After winning one of the most thrilling Super Bowls in recent memory just a few months ago, nobody expects Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots to fall off next season.

If they did have a need, however, it would be defensive tackle or cornerback, thanks to the departure of proven veterans Vince Wilfork and Darrelle Revis at each position.

It was obvious they would select a player at one of the two positions, but which one would it be?

As it turns out, defensive tackle was the answer, and I love their selection with the final pick of the night.

Malcolm Brown is a steal for the Patriots, and considering the Patriots hole at defensive tackle, he will become an instant impact player. He has incredible athleticism for his size, and was able to get to the quarterback at ease while at the University of Texas. That may not be the case in the NFL, at least not immediately, but his size and strength alone will allow him to clog the interior line from the start.

Brown will have to make a few adjustments to make a successful transition to the NFL, but all signs point to him being capable of doing so. He may not be a household name outside of Austin, Texas, but that could change very quickly.

Brown is a big, athletic interior lineman. Just what the doctor ordered to replace Vince Wilfork in New England.
