The St. Louis Rams drafted Todd Gurley on Thursday night, which prompted a trade of Zac Stacy to the New York Jets.

When the St. Louis Rams drafted Georgia running back Todd Gurley in the first round of the NFL Draft, it was apparent that the Zac Stacy era was over. Even Stacy knew that, as he requested a trade almost immediately after Gurley was selected and on Saturday afternoon that trade was granted.

The New York Jets snagged Zac Stacy off of the St. Louis Rams for nothing more than a seventh round draft pick on Saturday afternoon.

This is a huge win for the Jets, as they basically picked up a guy who could be a starter for absolutely nothing at all. Stacy joins a crowded backfield in New York but he joins one that he could very well be leading this season.

As for the Rams, they picked up a decent pick in the seventh round and grabbed a guy who could eventually develop into a role player on special teams and late game rotations. This is mainly a win for the Jets though, as this was basically a situation where the Rams released Stacy and picked up a seventh round pick as compensation.

If Stacy turns out to be a stud in New York, it could make this into one of the infamous draft stories we always hear about this time of year. Then again, Stacy failed to latch on in St. Louis, where there was minimal competition and a clear role for him to fill as Tre Mason’s running mate.
