The first tight end didn’t go off the board until the second round, but there are plenty of undrafted free agent tight ends available.

There were some good tight ends in this year’s draft class, like Maxx Williams, but it wasn’t exactly the strongest class overall.

The tight end is a position on the field that has become more utilized in recent years and carries importance as the player has to be able to catch and block.

Some teams prefer their tight ends to block and some prefer guys that can be offensive threats in the passing game.

They also can play a role on special teams to help themselves earn a spot on the roster.

With the draft over, here are the available undrafted free agent tight ends.

Tight ends:

Jean Sifrin, Massachusetts
Eric Tomlinson, Texas-El Paso
Wes Saxton, South Alabama
Will Tye, Stony Brook
Khari Lee, Bowie State
E.J. Bibbs, Iowa State
Conner Hamlett, Oregon State
Brian Vogler, Alabama
Brian Parker, Albany (N.Y.)
Westlee Tonga, Utah
Travis Dickson, LSU
Matt Lengel, Eastern Kentucky
Devin Mahina, BYU
Gabe Holmes, Purdue
Cameron Clear, Texas A&M

The big names on the list are Wes Saxton and Gabe Holmes, both of whom many expected to get drafted in the middle rounds by teams.

It’s certainly possible that some of these guys had mid-round draft grades and that they will have a good shot at making a roster, as there are plenty of teams in need of competent tight ends.

With the tight end position, it’s all about fit and these free agents best shot to get signed is if they fit the scheme of a team looking to sign them.
