The Green Bay Packers are traditionally one of the best teams during the NFL Draft, so how did they do this year?

Green Bay had one pick in the first five rounds of the draft with three picks in the sixth round for a total of eight picks. The Packers came away with the draft’s top cover safety in Arizona State’s Damarious Randall who will compete for a starting job opposite last year’s No. 1 pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

They continued to upgrade the secondary in the second round with Miami (OH) cornerback Quinten Rollins who was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year last year in his first season playing college football after coming over from the basketball team. He had 73 tackles and seven interceptions and should fit well in their press-man scheme. Best thing is he won’t be pressed into early duty with the depth they have at the position.

I loved the pick of Stanford receiver and return man Ty Montgomery in the third round and he gives Aaron Rodgers yet another weapon. He doesn’t have elite speed or hands, but he makes plays and is dangerous after the catch. Heck, hand the ball off to him and watch him work. He should instantly upgrade the Packers kickoff return game and I think he can blossom into a top three option behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Just an embarrassment of riches for Rodgers.

Fourth round pick Jake Ryan was a productive linebacker who did a bit of everything at Michigan. He can help fill the void left by A.J. Hawk. He made 36 starts for the Wolverines and was a two-year team captain.

They made a surprising pick in the fifth round when they took UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley but he goes to a great situation where he can sit and learn how to play quarterback in the NFL and could be flipped for a higher pick in the next couple of years.

In the sixth round the Packers took Oklahoma fullback Aaron Ripkowski, Louisiana-Lafayette defensive end Christian Ringo and tight end Kennard Backman who may be the last ever pick from UAB.

Grade: B
