Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly insists that Tim Tebow wasn’t brought in as a camp arm.

The Philadelphia Eagles brought in quarterback Tim Tebow this offseason, raising a lot of eye brows. The Eagles already had Mark Sanchez on the roster and Sam Bradford trying to get healthy, so Tebow didn’t really seem to fit.

Sanchez explained it by saying Tebow was simply brought in to be a camp arm and to be an extra passer in workouts and training camp.

That makes some sense, but Eagles head coach Chip Kelly says that isn’t true at all.

“No. I think everybody here that we bring to our organization is here to compete for a job. That’s what Timmy is going to do,” Kelly said, via NJ.com. “He’s an unbelievable competitor.”

Kelly added: “If we were just going to have guys throw drills we’d take [Mike] Mayock in the offseason and bring him down here and let him throw to them.”

Still, hard to buy that they actually brought Tebow into compete no matter what Kelly says. Sanchez’s explanation still seems to make the most sense.

Kelly could also have mild interest in Tebow and wanted to see if he had improved. Tebow had been working on this throwing motion since his lasst brief stint in the NFL.

In that case it is a pretty low-risk deal.
