Report: Warriors’ Steph Curry to be named MVP
According to sources, Golden State Warriors’ point guard Steph Curry is expected to be named the NBA MVP over Houston’s James Harden.
Warriors‘ superstar point guard has gone from small college prodigy to NBA MVP candidate in a matter of five years. According to CSNBayArea sources, the pint-sized point guard is expected to be named the 2014-15 league MVP, his first such honor of his young five-year career.
Coming out of Davidson as a March Madness star, Curry was expected to be a serviceable point guard in the NBA, maybe a backup, with a light-out three-point shot. However, he has been much, much more than that.
Exceeding all expectations that had been placed upon him, Curry has become one of the top-three guards in the entire league and easily the most valuable player on the team with the best record in the NBA.
Finishing the 2014-15 regular season with 23.8 points, 7.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting an impressive 49 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point land, this guy has absolutely eclipsed superstardom. Curry has gone from pretty good NBA player to the best player in the league in a couple of seasons.
The MVP announcement will likely take place this week, possibly Monday between Game 1 and Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals.
Many people thought James Harden would take the crown as he led a surprisingly successful Houston Rockets squad which had been hampered with injuries all year to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. He took that team over the top and finished second in the entire league in points per game.
The other candidate, Russell Westbrook, was eliminated from the conversation just as his Thunder were eliminated from playoff contention on the final game of the season. He had to lead the Thunder for most of the year without his superstar counterpart, Kevin Durant. Westbrook led the league in scoring.
Curry’s MVP Award this season will likely be his first of many as he has taken the Warriors to the top of the league and he isn’t stopping any time soon.
