The Chicago Cubs welcomed the newest addition to the royal family on Monday and it’s easily the most random news of the day.

The marquee at Wrigley Field is one of the most iconic in sports and certainly in the MLB. One of the messages on there today figuratively came out of left field as they welcomed the new baby to the royal family.

Prince William and Duchess Kate of Cambridge revealed the name of their second child on Monday, calling their new baby girl Charlotte Elizabeth Diana who was born Saturday, May 2.

Because Americans are obsessed with the offspring of British royalty, people walking around Wrigley were informed via the marquee just as if it was the day’s starting pitchers or the time of the first pitch.

Yeah, this is totally random and I wonder if they’d even do the same if All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro had a new addition to his family or if first-year Cubs manager Joe Maddon became a grandpa again.

Nevertheless, it’s showing some global recognition, right? And for one of the global brands in Major League Baseball, maybe the Cubs are getting a footprint overseas and can begin scouting England for some relief pitching.

In case you were wondering how to refer to the new pride and joy of the Prince and Duchess, well she will be called the Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge. Or if you’re friends, you can call her the RHPCC. On second thought, don’t do that and show proper respect and call he by her full title.

Sure, this may look random — and it is — but it’s a nice gesture from the Cubs who have been one of the better stories in baseball through the first month of the season and are hoping for their fairy tale ending just like the royal family and can’t wait to be crowned.
