In a thrilling Game 7, the Spurs were eliminated from the postseason at the hands of the Clippers. It was an interesting scenario where two of the West’s best teams had to face off in the very first round of the playoffs. It went as most expected, all the way to Game 7 with both teams trading blows until the end. Spurs shooting guard Danny Green hopes that it isn’t the end for the current Spurs team however. Or, at least, part of it.

Green likely knows that the Spurs will look different next year, despite the fact that it was kept largely intact this season to defend last year’s NBA title. Green happens to be one of those 10 Spurs that is due to become a free agent in July, but he doesn’t really want to think about the new-look Spurs or his own possible absence from the team.

"“It hasn’t sunk in yet, but this is a special group,” he said. “That’s why it sucks so bad, especially for Timmy (Duncan) and Manu (Ginobili)…I have a feeling some of those guys will be back. ” (via San Antonio Express News)"

The main thing Green wants is for himself to be back in San Antonio. He said that he hopes that he’ll be back and that he loves the fans for supporting the Spurs until the end. Green added that it “sucked” that they had such a special group this year and weren’t able to get things done for them. He realizes that the exact group may not be back next year and that makes the pill a little tougher to swallow.

One thing in Green’s favor is that he put on a compelling performance in Game 7 that should give plenty of reason for him to stay in San Antonio. He went 6 for 12 in shooting, with 16 points, five blocks and two steals. He spent much of the game facing off against Clippers star guard Chris Paul and responded admirably on both side of the ball.

On the other side of Green was the sub-par performance of the current DPOY, Kawhi Leonard. During the seven game series with the Clippers, Leonard only had eight total steals and did not have a single steal in the last four games of the series. His defensive invisibility led to a turnover deficit for the Spurs, which clearly did not help them when every little thing mattered.
