The Golden State Warriors are trying to win the NBA Finals, but Steph Curry is already the MVP and he accepted that award on Monday.
The NBA has named it’s latest MVP and Steph Curry joins the ranks of absolute titans of the game. Not only does he succeed LeBron James and Kevin Durant, but he i the second Golden State Warriors player to win the MVP after Wilt Chamberlain so many years ago.
But this day was about Steph Curry graduating into the highest ranks of the NBA ecosystem, as he is now a superstar in a way that Derrick Rose became back in 2011. Curry isn’t just one of the best point guards in the league, he’s the best point guard in the league and that’s something he will look to build on in the future.
Today was all about the future, as Curry’s season was incredible to watch and we’re truly seeing the birth of the next era in the NBA.
Curry received his MVP trophy on Monday afternoon and gave a speech that mad us believe it won’t be the last time we hear him giving an acceptance speech.
Curry comes off as someone who could be your cousin, who is laid back and chill but is a competitor in every way possible. He matured right before our eyes during his speech as he was fun and free-willed but also humble and adoring of everyone in the room.
He thanked everyone from the equipment manager to the head of security and his teammates. But the most important person he thanked was his father, Dell Curry, and the emotions poured out when it came time to mentioning him.
Curry’s play on the court this year is what has made him one of the best players in the league and while his MVP speech wasn’t on the level of Kevin Durant’s last year, it was humbling to see. Curry is a guy who works as though he has a thankless job, despite the fact that he has all the adoration in the world.
Steph Curry doesn’t care about the NBA, he cares about Golden State and that was clear in his speech. The fans, the players, the coaches and everyone connected with the team was thanked — which is why Steph Curry is the real MVP this year.
