Todd Gurley will wear Zac Stacy’s old number for St. Louis Rams
After the Rams drafted Todd Gurley, they shipped Zac Stacy off to the Jets. Now, Gurley will be wearing Stacy’s old number.
When the St. Louis Rams drafted Todd Gurley, the need for Zac Stacy on the roster was no more. The Rams then dealt Stacy to the New York Jets for a seventh-round draft pick.
With rookies being introduced to their teams this week, they are also picking out equipment for rookie mini-camp and selecting their numbers.
While Gurley wore No. 3 in college, he went with a number that Rams fans might remember, No. 30.
No. 30 also happens to be the number that Zac Stacy wore when he was with the Rams.
It’s probably just a coincidence, as Gurley is an incoming rookie and there was really no bad blood between Stacy and the Rams, but rather just a business decision being made.
Still, Gurley will be the next to wear No. 30 for St. Louis. In Zac Stacy’s rookie year wearing No. 30, he had a 1,000+ yard season on the ground for St. Louis.
Whether Gurley can replicate that is another story. With his knee getting cleared by doctors, it will be interesting to see how long until St. Louis is ready to let him play full time. They might be better off taking the cautious route and letting him take all the time that he needs to become fully healthy.
If he does that, he will be a Ram for a long time and will be remembered in No. 30, the number that once belonged to Stacy.
