The Miami Marlins have dealing with bad luck over the years. This season has been nothing new. The team gave a long-term extension to the young outfielder Christian Yelich, seven-year and $49.57 million to be exact. So far, this contract hasn’t panned out. He’s been on the DL with a back injury since April 24. However, he will be activated on Friday and fantasy owners cannot be happier.

Last season was a breakout season for Yelich. He had 165 hits, nine home runs, 54 RBI, 21 stolen bases and a .284/.362/.402 line in 144 games. The beginning of this season didn’t look so good and it was obvious there was something wrong with him. He has just nine hits, four RBI and one stolen bases in 11 games.

When he returns, Yelich will provide some extra offense to the Marlins lineup. The team ranks 28th in home runs, but is pretty sufficient in most of the other stats. Having Yelich back will help Giancarlo Stanton and Adeiny Hechavarria, who are one-two in home runs and RBI.

The Marlins have been doing pretty well since losing Yelich. They are 7-3 since he landed on the DL. The Marlins are hoping the time he spends with High-A Jupiter will help get him back on track. As a result with his return, Ichiro Suzuki will be sent back into a reserve role. Not like many owners picked up Ichiro, but it affects those in the deepest of leagues.

Yelich will join the team as they get ready for a weekend series against the San Francisco Giants. He will be facing Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner and Ryan Vogelsong. All three pitchers are hittable, so Yelich has a favorable matchup ready for his return.

Most fantasy owners have been holding onto Yelich, still owned in 64.3 percent of ESPN.com leagues. So, if you need a top-30 outfielder, he should still be available.
