LeBron James is hanging up his headband for good. ESPN gave it a proper send off in a eulogy for the piece of apparel.

LeBron James is finally hanging up his headband. He claims it is because he wants to look more like his teammates for the rest of the playoffs. A noble statement from LeBron who has carried the headband with him since his rookie season. But I guess it’s time to hang it up.

To properly send LeBron’s headband off into the Hall of Fame of Sports apparel out there, ESPN eulogized it.

This headband became a piece of LeBron throughout his playing days. It was almost as if it was one with James as he won every MVP award and NBA Championship with the headband sported on top of his receding hairline. Every king needs his crown. LeBron’s crown was his headband. But in order to become one with the rest of the people, he is giving it up for now.

Some question whether or not LeBron’s gesture is going to last for long? Maybe. But if you look how far LeBron’s hair has receded over his NBA career, by the time he is 35 he is going to be balder than Daddy Warbucks. So if he doesn’t want to look completely ridiculous while he is on the court he might consider bringing it back.

In all seriousness, this will probably have little effect on anything actually related to the outcome of a playoff game. But still, ESPN’s eulogy on the iconic headband is a hilarious way of saying “thank you” to the years it served as the NBA’s most notable piece of sportswear.
