According to a TMZ Sports report, Chris Johnson wants to play for the Dallas Cowboys.

According to a TMZ Sports report, Chris Johnson wants to get some carries in Dallas this year. Johnson reportedly thinks he would do well for the Cowboys and that they should “come holler” at him.

The drama surrounding the Dallas Cowboys‘ first string running back has been more than entertaining this off season. Things started back in February when DeMarco Murray became a free agent following his 1,845 rushing yard season that won him the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year last year. Would the Cowboys pay the man or would another team snatch him out from under his former team was a question that circled the sporting news tabs for about month and a half. Then in mid March, Murray was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in a shocking move.

This left the Cowboys running back-less and without a man who could score 13 touchdowns a season. Their response: signing 27 year old, 7 year veteran in Darren McFadden. Hardly the most appealing applicant to a job that has been filled by the stellar Murray for the past four years, though Emmitt Smith isn’t worried. So maybe signing Chris Johnson isn’t that bad of an idea.

Johnson told TMZ as he was walking out of a restaurant that he “would fit good in Dallas.”

He was standing next to former Titans quarterback, Vince Young back when Johnson ran for 2,000 yards with Tennessee. The former NCAA Championship quarterback also had encouraging words for the possibility of Murray playing in Dallas.

“He’ll fit well,” said Young. “They’re going to love CJ out there (in Dallas).”

Johnson would get to run behind one of the best offensive  lines in the NFL. Something that helped spurt DeMarco Murray within the striking distance of a 2,000 yard season. Maybe it is exactly what the former super star running back needs to get his career back on track.

It might not hurt too bad for the Cowboys either. Dallas can’t be dead set on just Darren McFadden in the backfield, and they chose not to select anyone in the 2015 NFL draft to fill a running back spot. Sharing the carries between these two backs might be the solution to their running back problems before the 2015 season begins.

Whatever Dallas decides to do, I think it would be worth their time to at least “come holler” at Johnson as the running back suggested. With NFL running backs shelf life so short nowadays this could end up to biting them long term. But a cheap, one-year deal might get them another solid veteran presence who could produce decent numbers over the course of the season.
