New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez hit his 661st home run of his MLB career on Thursday, passing Willie Mays for the 4th most all-time.

Move over, Willie Mays. New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez hit his 661st career home run on Thursday, passing The Say Hey Kid for the 4th most homers in MLB history.

Rodriguez’s milestone home run came in the third inning against Chris Tillman of the Baltimore Orioles.

And the curtain call:

The home run was A-Rod’s eighth long ball of the season.

A-Rod’s arguably the most hated figure in MLB today, so surely not many people are happy to see him pass one of baseball’s most beloved stars in Mays.

While the Yankees have made clear they aren’t going to pay Rodriguez his bonus for passing Mays on the home run list, they were kind enough to send a congratulatory tweet that didn’t simply state the facts and featured a lot of emotion.

However, regardless of how he did it or how many people he angered along the way, Rodriguez is one of the most accomplished hitters in MLB history.

Entering tonight’s action, Rodriguez was a career .299 hitter with 1,985 RBI and 1,934 runs.
