Seattle Seahawks star defensive end Michael Bennett denies rumors that he wants to be traded

There have been trade rumors surrounding Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett for weeks now. As recently as yesterday, Jason La Canfora reported that Michael Bennett still wanted to be traded. This report came a month after initial reports that Michael Bennett was asking for more money and possibly requesting a trade.

The Atlanta Falcons surfaced as the possible landing spot for Bennett, given his familiarity with former Seahawks defensive coordinator and now Falcons head coach, Dan Quinn. These reports were denied by Bennett. Then there were no stories about Bennett being unhappy until this week with La Canfora’s report.

Again, there was a spike in speculation that Bennett was unhappy with his contract and he could make more elsewhere if traded.

Today, Michael Bennett has gone on record to deny any notion that he wants to be traded. On New Day Northwest, a TV program on the local KING 5 channel, Michael Bennett was interviewed.

Asked whether or not he wanted to be traded he answer the question directly with an emphatic, “no.” He was asked if he was trying to get a new contract, to which Bennett responded, “I think everyone who has a job, they want a raise for whatever they’re doing. I’m just like any other American. I think everybody wants to be paid a little bit more so I don’t think I fall short of that.”

So Bennett would like more money, but he isn’t trying to get out of his contract or trying to be dealt to another team.

Then where are these rumors coming from? This could be another case of an agent trying to get more on his commission, or it could just be a misunderstanding of Bennett hoping to get a bonus.

Michael Bennett ranks third in the league in QB hurries for a 4-3 defensive end behind J.J. Watt and Justin Houston. He has been the biggest impact player on Seattle’s defensive line, perhaps its weakest unit on the league’s number one defense. There is some speculation that the second round selection of DE Frank Clark is as a potential replacement to Bennett, but the Seahawks would benefit far more from having both on the roster.

After being asked about trade rumors Bennett was asked about his feelings on Deflategate and he said, “[I]t didn’t matter. I think they beat us fair and square.”

Hopefully for Seattle fans this will be the last we hear about Bennett trade rumors.
