John Axford’s 2-year-old snakebitten son threw out game’s first pitch (video)
Rockies closer John Axford’s son, Jameson, recovering from multiple snake bites, threw out Dodgers-Rockies game’s first pitch Friday
In an early contender for the heartwarming MLB moment of the year, Jameson Axford, the son of Rockies closer John Axford, threw out the first pitch of the Rockies-Dodgers game Friday night.
Jameson, the Rockies closer’s 2-year-old son, suffered bad bites from rattlesnakes in Arizona during spring training, and is still recovering.
Friday gave the Axford family a nice moment, as the wheelchair-bound Jameson came out clad in a Rockies uniform, and threw the first pitch to his three-year-old brother, JD, who brought it to their father.
Here’s a video of the heartwarming moment:
I think I can speak for all of us when I say: awwwww.
It’s a nice moment in the center of the baseball diamond for a family that has dealt with a lot of trauma lately. Doctors called it the worst bite they’d seen, and Jameson has been fighting to heal ever since, dealing with an array of medical procedures and being in and out of the hospital ever since the bite happened March 25.
Axford says the recovery could be “weeks, months, even years,” so it was especially nice to get this moment of family normalcy at the ballgame.
“Just being at a baseball game together is huge for both of them,” Axford said of his two sons, in what hopefully will just be the first in a long series of nice moments for the family.
