Rory McIlroy hits a terrible shot at TPC (video)
Fans can feel better about their own game after seeing this shot from the world’s No. 1 player, Rory McIlroy.
TPC Sawgrass is a difficult course that can cause some pretty silly shots. Even someone as great as Rory McIlroy is not immune to looking like an ordinary fan at times during The Players Championship.
During Saturday’s Round 3 action, McIlroy offered one of the worst shots of the day on the Par-5 ninth.
A big problem with the shot was that McIlroy got a lot more grass than ball.
If McIlroy is looking for positives, at least he didn’t completely whiff (as every golfer reading this probably has at some point), and the ball didn’t go backwards. He was able to salvage par, but lost an opportunity to gain some ground.
That shot closed out a rough front nine for McIlroy, who struggled with his putter earlier in the day. McIlroy bounced back with three birdies over the final nine holes, moving to two under on the day and -6 overall. Kevin Na and Ben Martin are currently tied for the lead at -10, so McIlroy still has a chance to finish in pretty good position despite the rare whiff.
McIlroy isn’t the only one to end up on a highlight reel for the wrong reasons on Sunday. The infamous No. 17 always causes some problems, while Tiger Woods had some terrible shots on Saturday, posting a 75.
