David Blatt admits he almost cost Cavaliers by trying to call for timeout
David Blatt almost blew the game for the Cavaliers as he attempted to call a timeout with none left.
So many things happened at the end of the Cavaliers and Bulls game that will be talked about before Game 5 begins. One of those things was David Blatt almost blowing the game for his team.
After the Bulls tied the game with time running down, Cavaliers head coach David Blatt attempted to call for a timeout on the play. The problem was that the Cavaliers had no timeouts left and a technical foul could have been charged against the team, which would have given the Bulls the chance to win with a free throw.
Luckily for Blatt, his assistant coaches pulled him back before the officials could notice.
After the game, Blatt admitted that he could have potentially cost Cleveland the game and that he blew it.
While LeBron James hit the big shot for the win, assistant coach Tyronn Lue made almost as big of a play by pulling Blatt back.
“It was huge honestly … That’s why we’re a unit, we’re a team … Players make mistakes, coaches make mistakes,” James said about Lue pulling Blatt back.
The Cavaliers had to burn several timeouts trying to inbound the ball in with 18.8 seconds left and it’s easy to see why Blatt may have thought he had one timeout left. But in that situation as the head coach, he has to know how many they have.
Fortunately for Cleveland, nothing came of it, rather the biggest shot of their season as LeBron nailed the game winner as time expired.
