After Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant hit his first home run, he signed a baseball for the Brewers bullpen catcher who caught the ball and returned it.

Kris Bryant finally hit the first home run of his Major League career on Saturday night.

After being called up in April, many wondered when Bryant was finally going to get on the board with a home run. Well he finally hit one deep to left-center and the ball landed right in the middle of the Brewers bullpen. The ball actually ended up getting caught by Brewers bullpen catcher, Marcus Hanel.

What transpired after he caught it was one of the cooler moments in sports. Rather than holding out for a ransom like a fan would after a big home run, Hanel simply handed it over out of respect for the game.

In return, Kris Bryant responded with a cool gesture of his own and signed a separate baseball in the form of a thank you for Hanel returning the baseball.

It’s a classy gesture from two teams that play in the same division. Rather than letting rivalry get in the way, Hanel understood the importance of the play and showed respect for the game by giving back the ball.

Bryant showed tremendous maturity for a young player by reaching back with a gesture of his own. These are the moments that make sports fun to watch. The action in play is why we watch, but the actions outside are what pull everything together.
