NFL hasn’t made decision on Tom Brady, suspension
By Mike Dyce
The NFL hasn’t made a decision yet on Tom Brady and how long of a suspension they’re considering.
There were reports from the New York Daily News that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be suspended next week by the NFL for his part in the Deflategate scandal. The Wells Report said that Brady was “generally aware” of the deflating of footballs by two Patriots employees, and provided some pretty damning evidence to support it.
A report from Pro Football Talk though says that the NFL has made no decision on how long they’d be suspending Brady, if at all.
"Ultimately, the news will be bad; it’s not yet known how bad it will be. Although a league source insisted in the wake of Myers’ report that no decisions have been made regarding Brady (which actually feeds into the notion that the NFL is taking its time to gauge public opinion before pulling the trigger), how can Brady not be suspended?"
The NFL waiting to gauge the public’s opinion before deciding on punishments has been a point of criticism in the past, though there is no evidence that this is exactly what they’re doing. The NFL initially suspended Ray Rice for two games and then when the video of him hitting his then-fiancee came out the NFL changed to a lengthier suspension.
Public opinion seems to be rather divided on Brady. One camp seems to think it is rather silly, or that all quarterbacks tamper with their footballs to a certain degree. The other side thinks that cheating is cheating, and a suspension should be coming regardless.
A suspension seems to be inevitable, it is just a matter of how long. One-game would be a slap on the wrist considering Josh Gordon’s missing an entire season for some drinks on a plane.
