Daily Fantasy Baseball: FanDuel Picks For May 11

facebooktwitterreddit

There are 10 games in the evening slate on FanDuel. Here are my “Best of the Best” selections for FanDuel lineups in the May 11 contests:

Pitcher

Josh Collmenter (ARZ) home vs. WAS for $7200:  This is a low risk, high reward pick, with Collmenter (3-3, 3.40 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) pitching at home against the Nationals. Collmenter has been very good recently, winning his last two starts (14.5 FPPG) with a 3.33 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 15 Ks in 15 IP. He also is an anomaly due to his history of pitching much better in Chase Field than elsewhere, with a career 21-16 record and impressive 3.11 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. Plus, he is 2-0 with 2 career starts vs. WAS with a 2.57 ERA against them and current Nats are hitting .241 against him. While Collmenter isn’t a big strikeout pitcher, the Nationals have 203 Ks vs. RHP which is the 4th highest rate in the league. With many fantasy players likely going with Scherzer the ownership will be extremely low and you could get a lot of bang for your buck here, especially if the slight underdog Diamondbacks (+115) win.

  • Hitters

Often, Batter vs. Pitcher (BVP) stats are overrated and overused by fantasy players. However, here are three hitter picks in which the BVP numbers are hard to ignore largely due the relatively large sample sizes and the extreme success these batters have had facing these pitchers.

2B Dustin Pedroia (HOU) at OAK (Kazmir) for $2,900: Pedroia is off to a good start (.277 BA, 5 HRs, 14 RBIs) and has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games. He is also .500 (19 for 38) lifetime vs. Kazmir, with 2 HRs and 9 walks. Plus, Kazmir has been rocky lately giving up 9 ER & 16 H/BB in 12 IP in his last two starts.

1B Evan Longoria (TB) home vs. NYY (Sabathia) for $3,700: Normally, any R/L matchup with a 2.7 FPPG hitter against an 0-5, 5.45 ERA starting pitcher would be good, but this one is especially lucrative since Longoria is 24 for 58 (.414) with 6 HRs, 14 RBIs and 13 BBs in his career facing Sabathia.

  • OF Ryan Braun (MIL) home vs. CWS (Samardzjia) for $4,000: Not only is this a favorable matchup for Braun against the White Sox righty (9 for 18 career with 3 homers), he is also on fire of late going 6 for 13 with over 7.5 FPPG in his last four ball games. Add in the Miller Park factor and this is a must start.
