Governor Chris Christie spent over $82,000 on concessions at MetLife Stadium
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spent over $82,000 on concession stand food at MetLife Stadium in 2010 and 2011.
An expense report was obtained by Watchdog.org recently via a Freedom of Information Act request recently and it showed something just inexplicable ridiculous.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was cited paying back $82,594 to the company that owns the concessions at MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and New York Jets. The expense report was over a matter of two years, 2010 and 2011.
The fifth-year governor might be in some sort of negative spotlight right now as it has been made known that he spent over $82,000 on concession stand food in a two-year span.
His press secretary is defending the Republican governor, obviously, stating that the nature of his expenses was purely for business even though it was at a sporting venue. While this may be true, the fact that he spent that much on concessions over a two-year span with a New Jersey expense account is utterly ridiculous.
Watchdog.org also obtained this information regarding his expenses:
"Christie spent $360,000 from his state allowance during his five years in office. More than 80 percent of that money, or $300,000, was used to buy food, alcohol and desserts, according to a New Jersey Watchdog analysis of records released by the governor’s office. In addition to his $175,000 a year salary, the governor receives $95,000 a year in expense advances, paid quarterly by the state. In the state budget, it is listed as “an allowance of funds not otherwise appropriated and used for official receptions on behalf of the state, the operation of an official residence, for other expenses.”"
That is a ton of money to be spending on food, alcohol and desserts. I love how they had to single out one category as just “desserts” because he probably splurged on that.
The New Jersey State Republican Committee has since paid back the state treasury for the expenses he made prior to 2012 at MetLife Stadium.
It’s unclear what type of business meeting he held at MetLife Stadium, but he must have been entertaining parties of 20-plus people at a time in order to spend more money than some people make it a two-year span on concession stand food alone — on a New Jersey expense account, nonetheless.
So I think the moral of the story is quite clear: if you’re going to a sporting even, bring Chris Christie so you don’t have to spend a ridiculous amount on overpriced stadium concessions.
Christie’s got you covered, sports fans.
