DraftKings Pitcher Picks – May 12

Welcome back to the première website to get expert fantasy advice, including Starting Pitcher Selections for DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball contests. Below are my picks for Tuesday, May 12th, 2015. Good Luck!

Ian Kennedy (SD) at SEA for $8,100. Kennedy has recovered from an early season hamstring injury and a bad first start coming off the DL, averaging 23.1 FPPG while winning his last two starts with only 3 ER in 13 IP along with 11 Ks. The talented righty (68-54, 3.95 ERA lifetime) should continue the upward trend tonight in Seattle’s Safeco Field, which is dead last in the majors with a park factor run figure of 0.83. Additionally, he faces a 14-17 Mariner team which is 25th in runs scored and is 26th in hitting (.232) vs. RHP in 2015.

  • Jake Arrieta (CHC) home vs. NYM for $8600. Arrieta has been serviceable this year with 19.6 FPPG at 3-3 with a 3.41 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 38 Ks in 37 IP. He scuffled a bit in his last two starts against STL and MIL (11.25 FPPG) but his ability to get strikeouts and to consistently reach a 100+ pitch count guarantees some fantasy production even we he’s not locked in. Arrieta is very steady and rarely strings together non-quality starts. Look for him to rebound in a big way at home tonight (Cubs are a -140 favorite) at Wrigley, where he’s 11-4 with a 2.23 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 121 Ks in 133 1/3 IP in 21 career starts. Plus, he faces the Mets who are now just 23rd in the majors in scoring, and have especially struggled lately with only 51 runs in their last 16 games.

Long Shot of the Day: Nathan Eovaldi (NYY) at TB for $6,300. Eovaldi is 3-0 so far in 2015 with a 3.97 ERA and 25 Ks in 34 IP over 6 starts. Not world-beater numbers but decent for a pitcher whose DK salary tends to be in the low-to-mid 6000 range. Eovaldi (12.7 FPPG) has at least been consistent, giving up 3 or fewer runs in 5 of those 6 outings. Owner of one of the league’s best fastballs, he takes the mound for the red-hot 21-12 Yankees, who are an impressive 12-5 on the road this year and face Chris Archer who has struggled of late. Expect Eovaldi to have a decent night (15-25 FPs) against the Rays, who are 22nd in MLB in runs scored and 4th in strikeouts.

Stay Away: Chris Sale (CWS) at MIL for $9400. The star White Sox lefty (5.93 ERA, 1.1 WHIP) has been hit bad lately after a strong start to the season, giving up 13 ER and 23 H/BBs in only 8 1/3 IP in his last two starts. Taking Sale tonight in the hopes we will rebound against the 12-21 Brewers could be tempting especially since the Brewers don’t hit lefties well (27th in MLB w/ a .208 BA). However, the Brewers are hot, winning three straight while scoring 25 runs in their last 3 games. At the top price of $9400 and in Miller Park, I’d stay away from Sale tonight.
