Al Horford gave the Hawks the series lead with a strong game-winner with 1.9 seconds left in game five.

Al Horford may have just saved the lives of the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Playoffs. This strong offensive rebound and put-back gave the Hawks an 82-81 win over the Washington Wizards in game five of their second round series:

While the offensive rebound is probably the most impressive part of the play, what’s overlooked is how big it was in the moment. The fact that Horford still had that kind of fight left in him is admirable. There are quite a few players around the league who would have been defeated after what Paul Pierce did to the Hawks on the possession previous to the one that Horford converted on:

The Hawks showed a ton of fight in game five. They played abysmally for most of the night, but dug deep in the fourth quarter to fight back and make it a game. That’s yet another reason why Pierce’s three could have broken them. Horford wasn’t going to be broken on this night.

Atlanta is now clearly in the driver’s seat in this series with home-court advantage. Even if they drop game six in Washington, they’ll be on their home floor for a decisive game seven.
