3 Starting Pitcher Sleepers

1. Hector Santiago-Los Angeles Angels: Santiago had been cruising right along until he had a rough start in San Francisco two outings ago allowing four runs on nine hits in five innings.  He did bounce back nicely, though, in his last start allowing just one hit in 6.1 scoreless innings (despite four walks).  Santiago’s ERA is down to 2.57 after that outing, and he’s in a great matchup tonight against the struggling Rockies. Santiago is the top name I’d look for as a streaming starting tonight, and he’s likely available since he’s only owned in under 30% of ESPN leagues.

2. Kyle Lobstein-Detroit Tigers: The Tigers have been thriving despite some injuries and struggles of their supposed front-line starters since players like Lobstein have been stepping up.  In his last outing, Lobstein only allowed one unearned run on five hits while pitching 7.2 innings.  It was his third straight start in which he pitched at least seven innings, and he’ll look to continue that impressive run as he faces the Twins tonight in what should be a winnable game since he’s taking on the struggling Ricky Nolasco.  Lobstein won’t get you many strikeouts which is why he isn’t #1 on this list, but he has a great shot to pick up a win tonight at Comerica Park and is available in over 95% of ESPN leagues.

3. Carlos Frias-Los Angeles Dodgers: In contrast to Lobstein, Frias hasn’t even reached the seventh inning yet in either of his starts for the Dodgers, but he has shown enough promise to give a look if you can’t get Santiago or Lobstein. Frias is 3-0 thanks to some great run support, and you can expect more of the same tonight as he faces the Marlins tonight in LA.  Frias has nine strikeouts in his 10.1 innings as a starter, and can give you some solid K’s and hopefully a win as he takes the mound tonight.
