Huston Street, Angels agree on extension
The Los Angeles Angels and closer Huston Street have agreed on a two-year, $18 million extension, according to Aaron Gleeman of NBC’s Hardball Talk. The deal also allows Los Angeles an option year in 2018. The Angels acquired Street from the San Diego Padres last year at the Major League Baseball trading deadline, and watched as Street helped them capture the American League West.
Street, 31, is on the last year of his six-year, $43 million pact that he signed with the Colorado Rockies. Street has been one of the best closers in baseball over the last decade, racking up 286 saves including a career-high 41 last season between San Diego and Los Angeles. The only knock on Street has been his performance in the postseason. In 10 playoff games, Street has a combined 6.75 ERA.
To this point in 2015, Street has pitched in 14 games and registered 11 saves with a 3.29 ERA. The Angels are struggling, though, sitting 16-17 and four games back in the AL West of the surprising Houston Astros. Still, Los Angeles is in solid position with the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics suffering through brutal starts.
The son of a University of Texas quarterback, Street came up with the Oakland Athletics as a top prospect and pitched four seasons there from 2005-08. Street is most remembered in Oakland for allowing a walk-off home run to Magglio Ordonez of the Detroit Tigers in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series.

Street was dealt to the Rockies after the 2008 campaign and spent three years with Colorado, posting an ERA between 3.06 and 3.86 during his stay in the Mile High City, even in the launching pad of Coors Field. After spending the next 2.5 years with San Diego, Street was dealt to the Angels for multiple prospects.
