2015 NBA Draft: Westbrook, Bird are representatives for lottery
The NBA Draft Lottery will include some of the NBA’s brightest stars, as well as some of its more average planets.
Last year the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA lottery.
Well, okay they didn’t really win the lottery. The Cleveland Cavaliers and their naked mole rat general manager David Griffin won the first overall pick in the draft, while the Bucks got second. In the literal sense, the Bucks came in second. But in the spiritual sense, all of life is a competition, and they “won” the draft lottery by having Mallory Edens, the daughter of Bucks co-owner Wesley Edens, provide support for the Milwaukee Bucks behind the podium.
She even inspired a creepy punk song tribute.
The rest of the league took notice, and they have stepped up with their representatives.
A few quick thoughts:
- This year has more player representatives than usual. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Alex Len and Nerlens Noel can remind the Hornets, Suns and 76ers of underwhelming and competent choices of lotteries past, so it’s a good hat tip to recent league history.
- RUSS! The Thunder are getting the 14th pick, and he will be pissed.
- The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the NBA’s flagship franchises. Go with Kareem or Magic. Jerry West is the f**king logo. Why in the name of all that is good would you decide to chose Byron Scott?
- Vlade Divac, on the other hand, only represents success. It’s surprisingly refreshing to see Kings owner Vivek Ranadive not choose himself. Hopefully Vlade is not traded while the lottery is going on.
- The same thing said about Vlade goes for Alonzo Mourning, although with a lot less sarcasm. The 1990s needs to be better represented in the Draft Lottery. I better be seeing Mitch Richmond soon.
- Finally, I guess a team could do worse than being represented by Larry Bird.
The Draft Lottery is next Tuesday, May 19.
