Former New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick thinks he has two to three more years of playing time in the NFL.

Quarterback Michael Vick was rather unceremoniously dumped from the dumpster fire that the Jets season became last year. The decision to play Geno Smith instead was a management one, not based on either Vick or Smith’s level of play. The political nonsense in the Jets chaotic finish to their season left Vick wondering whether he even wanted to play football again. However, now he’s working out at “The Chamber” and hoping to get back into the league, according to a story by NFL.com.

The Chamber is a fitness complex based in Florida and appropriately owned by Chris Chambers, a former Dolphins receiver. Vick is one a few pro athletes working out at the complex, but Chambers spoke of him to the Miami Herald, saying that the quarterback has been doing great in the last few weeks. He confirmed the “political stuff” between Vick and Smith during the latter part of last season and said that Vick wants to be on a winning team. He further added that there are teams interested and Vick ultimately hopes that he can be a starter again somewhere.

Vick hardly resembled his former self last year when he played for the Jets. He only completed a 52.9 percent of his passes over three starts and then later admitted that he wasn’t ready to take the starting role from Smith. The Jets largely hired him as a veteran backup for an emergency they probably hoped they wouldn’t have. Then they did when Smith seemed awful in the first four weeks and by Week 5, they decided to give Vick a look. That resulted in a 31-0 drubbing by the Chargers, prompting the aforementioned admission by Vick.

The Jets season continued to go down the toilet and rumors started to fly that Rex Ryan and GM John Idzik would be gone and it became a concentrated effort by management to continue testing Smith, no matter how bad he looked. That obviously led to the “political stuff” that Chambers talked about.

While Vick might not be starting material anymore, no matter what he thinks, if barely mediocre quarterbacks like Matt Schaub, Christian Ponder and the like can still get starting jobs, then you have to believe that Vick at least has a chance.

In 12 NFL seasons with the Falcons, Eagles, and Jets, Michael Vick has thrown for 22,093 yards, 131 touchdowns, and 87 interceptions, accumulating a QB rating of 80.4. He’s also run for another 6,010 yards and 36 touchdowns.
