The good news is that Minor should be back and ready to go next spring training for the Braves. The team currently sits in fourth in the National League East after trading off several star players in the offseason. It’s hard to see the Braves contending this season, especially with other teams in the division looking good.

Minor went on the disabled list in April with shoulder inflammation and it had been recently discovered that there was a tear in his labrum. His shoulder affected his performance last season in the rotation and in 25 starts, Minor had a 6-12 record with a 4.77 ERA.

After a strong 2013 season, Minor has yet to rebound and now with surgery on his shoulder, it will be a while before he gets back on the mound and has a chance to look like the pitcher that the Braves used a first-round pick on.

The team that has been fighting for NL East Supremacy for 25+ years finally looks headed for a rebuilding phase. The Braves have several young pitchers in the rotation, but all have been struggling to find any consistency. Minor was one of those pitchers the Braves were looking at to be a key member of the future. It looks like the team will have to wait a while on him.

Luckily for Atlanta, it has plenty of young talent in the minors and if it keeps falling back in the race, it will be able to get some decent pieces in return for veterans at the trade deadline.

The rebuild is on in Atlanta.
