Phillies Trade Rumors: Ben Revere doesn’t care if he’s dealt
By Josh Hill
The MLB trade deadline is right around the corner, and Phillies outfielder Ben Revere just doesn’t care if he’s traded or not.
When the MLB trade deadline rolls around at the end of July, it’s an event that sweeps past us in a hurry but can kick up so much dust that it takes days to settle.
Last year names like Jon Lester, Jeff Samardzija, David Price and Yoenis Cespedes were moved to new teams in a flurry of activity that highlighted how much teams don’t value you if you’re going to cost them a big contract. Being traded is just part of the business of baseball, but it’s not as big a deal to some as it is to others.
According to Ryan Lawrence of the Daily News, Ben Revere doesn’t really care if the Phillies trade him or not.
"“I know this whole year is kind of crazy with a bunch of guys moving around … You always have that in the back of your head, but you can’t worry about it. I’m not worried about it. Whatever happens, it’s in the big man’s hands. I’m just going to go out there and play my game.”"
That’s really the attitude you have to have this time of year, as anyone and everyone can be traded and it’s just a matter of what a team can get back for you that determines if you stay or go. Revere has been traded before, from the Minnesota Twins to the Philadelphia Phillies, and being moved again is just another chapter in his book.
Baseball is ruthless when it comes to trades, as front offices don’t value many players outside of a core group of stars — and even they are subject to endless rumors.
Look at names like Yoenis Cespeds and Matt Kemp, who were All-Stars but were traded nonetheless. Cespedes, specifically, highlights how little teams value big names over finding the right guy. He was a home run machine and a rising star with the Oakland A’s before being traded to the Boston Red Sox and eventually signing with the Detroit Tigers.
This happened over the course of about half a year.
That right there shows you that teams just don’t care who you are, you can and will be traded if a general manager so chooses. That’s the nature of the beast in baseball and being traded is almost an honor of sorts as it shows that someone wants you and it affords you a fresh start to try and make yourself irreplaceable — which ironically makes you trade bait in baseball.
