NBA Rumors: Celtics eying LaMarcus Aldridge, Wes Matthews
By Josh Hill
NBA free agency is going to heat up fast as the offseason nears, and the Boston Celtics are already in a great position to clean up and improve with new additions.
Times are good for the Boston Celtics. Sure, they may have been bounced out of the postseason in just four games, but they have a white hot future ahead of them and if it’s handled properly they might have a dynasty on their hands. Boston owns multiple first-round draft picks for the rest of the decade and have a young team with money to spend on vets who might want to play for Brad Stevens.
Boston lost in the postseason, but took strides towards being winners in the immediate future, and that could all start with wrangling in a top free agent this summer.
According A. Sherrod Blakely on CSNNE’s Celtics Talk TV, Boston could be eying LaMarcus Aldridge and packaging him with fellow Trail Blazers free agent Wes Matthews.
Matthews missed the final stretch of the season and the entire postseason with an injury, and Aldridge is expected to field offers in free agency before considering a deal from the Blazers. Both are unrestricted free agents this summer, and both will be getting their fair share of interest around the NBA.
Boston has been involved in rumors with Kevin Love, and their interest in Aldridge suggest they have either a backup plan or a new plan entirely when it comes to getting s superstar forward. Many consider Aldridge and Love to be the same player, but the contrasting seasons they had this year may have changed who is stacked above who in the eyes of the public.
Either way, Boston wants upgrades to win again in 2015-16 and make it farther than the first-round of the postseason. They were swept by the Cavaliers, but the Celtics have a lot to look forward to and this summer should be interesting and important to their growth.
