MLB Trade Rumors: Troy Tulowitzki won’t ask for a trade
By Josh Hill
The Colorado Rockies have been dealing with Troy Tulowitzki trade rumors for over a year now, but a deal won’t happen because Tulo forces anyone’s hand.
Troy Tulowitzki was attending Yankees games while eon the DL last season and was distancing himself from a team that couldn’t even spell his name right on a jersey giveaway night. But since then, there has been some soul searching or mending of the fences in Colorado, as the tune has changed when it comes to Troy Tulowitzki and the trade rumors have subsided.
Since last season, when the trade rumors were hot right around the deadline, Troy Tulowitzki seems more committed to getting healthy and returning to the Rockies lineup.
According to MLB.com, the Rockies and Tulowitzki still might end up parting ways at some point this season, but it won’t be because he asks for a trade out of Colorado.
"“Whatever happens on the Rockies’ end happens, but for me to sit here and try to force my way out of here, that’s not the case,” Tulowitzki said while meeting with multiple media members for more than 10 minutes. “I don’t think it’s fair to my teammates and the relationships I’ve built here to take that route.”"
The Rockies could have struck when the iron was hot last summer, but despite rumors that involved the Cardinals, Mets and Yankees were interested in acquiring the shortstop. Since then the fire has died in a way, and the Rockies might not get the kind of deal that they could have gotten last year for him.
Tulowitzki buying in for the Rockies not only helps Colorado ease tensions with him, but it also makes Tulo look a little less negative in the eyes of the public who were starting to view him as an All-Star who wants out of a small market. There may still end up being a trade, but for now it won’t be Tulo forcing anyone’s hand.
