The Dallas Cowboys don’t start their season until September, but already Tony Romo has made the first big mistake of the year — by joining Twitter.

Twitter is an essential tool in our daily lives, as it has changed the way we communicate and it has changed the way we get news. It as also made us all into bigger assholes in more than one way, as the vitriol of the message board era has become a juiced beast foaming at the mouth on a constant basis.

Just like how a full moon turns Lawrence Talbot into the Wolfman, Twitter has a way of turning us in tho the worst version of ourselves as it’s an unfiltered way for us to rage against things we hate.

This is bad news for Tony Romo, who decided to join Twitter this week for some unknown reason.

It’s not that he’s just now joining Twitter, it’s that he’s basically inviting people to endlessly troll him. He’s one of the most polarizing quarterbacks in the NFL, and fans who burn his jersey and call for his job now have a pipeline into his head.

Romo sent out his first tweet on Friday, and it’s now a countdown to when we see his last after Cowboys fans drive him away from social media and back into his cage.

That’s not really a memorable first tweet, but this isn’t about the wisdom of Tony Romo — it’s about how scared we all are for his social media safety once the season starts. It won’t be just Cowboys fans after Romo, as he’ll hear from knuckle dragging fantasy football owners who get mad at his interceptions, sniff some glue and send him hate tweets because they drafted him and he’s not living up to his potential.

This is what Twitter has become, and Romo might regret his decision to join sooner rather than later.
