The Atlanta Braves are hoping Jace Peterson can be an answer to their issues at second base and he stepped up in a big way for his first career home run, making it a grand slam.

Rookie major leaguers start their careers with a monkey on their backs. Getting the first hit is the top thing to cross off the list, the first run is probably not too far behind, but the first major league home run? Well, that has to be the toughest to get out of the way.

For Jace Peterson, he’s been waiting on that moment for a little while now — 59 career games, to be exact.

Being the crucial piece in a trade that sent Justin Upton to the San Diego Padres, a lot was riding on the development of the 25-year-old second baseman who had played just a handful of games before joining the Atlanta Braves.

Peterson joined the team as the likely second baseman of the future, but the former top prospect of the Padres has been shuffled in and out of the lineup, finally making his presence known as the starter recently.

On Saturday afternoon, Peterson had the biggest hit of his career and the monkey is finally off his back. He hit his first career home run, and it happened to be a grand slam against the Miami Marlins, leading to a 5-3 win.

Pretty exciting moment for the young kid who has been searching for that big hit for about a third of and MLB season’s worth of games.

Big time hit for a future star.
