DraftKings Early Pitcher Picks – May 16

Welcome back to the première website to get expert fantasy advice, including Starting Pitcher Selections for DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball contests. The results for our May 14th picks were mixed. Anibal Sanchez did reward me for sticking with him (after getting blown up in his last start) by dominating the Twins and earning 30.4 FP. On the other hand, Travis Wood had problems with the long ball and got just 4.55 FP. Paired together they gave you at a minimum a fighting chance to win H2H and 50/50s depending on your offense.

There are only four games in the early slate today that starts at 1:05 pm. Keep in mind that there is inclement weather forecasted for both Chicago and St. Louis and as such monitor the updates and make your roster decisions accordingly. Below are my picks for Saturday afternoon May 16th, 2015. Good Luck!

Gerrit Cole (PIT) at CHC for $9500: Cole has been dynamite in 2015 with a 5-1 record and 2.32 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 45 Ks in 42 2/3 IP. If that’s not enough, he has dominated Chicago in his career (6-0) and loves pitching in Wrigley Field with a 4-0 mark in four starts with a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 32 Ks in 24 IP. The risk of starting him at Wrigley in a day game with the winds potentially blowing out is mitigated by Coles’ swing and miss kind of stuff. I would closely monitor the weather, but unless the wind is blowing straight out, I’d go with Cole and expect 25+ FPs.

  • Matt Latos (MIA) home vs. ATL for $7700:  Don’t be misled by the 1-3, 4.72 ERA, and 1.49 WHIP stat line for Latos. He has actually pitched quite well this season, especially in his last two starts scoring 21.85 FPPG with an average salary of $7350. After getting destroyed in his first start of the year (2/3 IP, 8 H/BB, 7 ER), Latos has had a respectable 2.97 ERA and 1.27 WHIP since. Look for Latos to handle the 16-19 Braves for the favored (-135) Marlins at Marlins Park which has ultra pitcher-friendly 2015 park factor figures, 21st in runs (.912) and dead last in HRs (.053).

Stay Away: David Price (DET) at STL for $10000: Price has been good as expected this year but is coming off a start which he gave up 13 hits and 4 ER in 6 1/3 IP, leaving early with a hamstring issue. Reportedly healthy after having his start pushed two days, but still he may be rusty with 7 days between starts. At the top DK price of $10000 against the NL best Cardinals, who are 13-4 at home and have the 10th highest scoring offense in baseball, I would pass on Price and look elsewhere.
