Early FanDuel Picks For May 16

There are 4 games in the “Early Only” Saturday contests on FanDuel starting at 1:05 pm. Here are my “Best of the Best” selections for FanDuel lineups in these early May 16th contests.

Pitcher

Matt Latos (MIA) home vs. ATL for $6900:  Don’t be misled by the 1-3, 4.72 ERA, and 1.49 WHIP stat line for Latos. He has actually pitched quite well this season, especially in his last two starts as a he put up a solid 13.17 FPPG. After getting destroyed in his first start of the year (2/3 IP, 8 H/BB, 7 ER), Latos has had a respectable 2.97 ERA and 1.27 WHIP since. Look for the tattooed righty to handle the 16-19 Braves for the favored (-135) Marlins at home.  Lastly, Marlins Park has ultra pitcher-friendly 2015 park factor figures, 21st in runs (.912) and 30th in HRs (.053).

Call to the Pen

    • Hitters

    C Chris Stewart (PIT) for $2200 or Francisco Cervelli (PIT) for $2300 at CHC (Lester): Regardless of who starts, take advantage of the R/L Matchup vs. Lester who has not been himself (4.10 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) this season. Stewart (.286, 4.6 FFPG) is 3 for 5 vs. Lester with a HR and Cervelli (.270, 4.5 FPPG) is a serviceable option as well at this position, especially at these prices and with the wind projected to be blowing out to left tomorrow.

    1B Freddie Freeman (ATL) at MIA (Latos) for $3700: Although I like Latos in this game, it’s hard to ignore the Fantasy impact of Freeman (.323 BA, .935 OPS, 5 HR, 18 RBI) who is scoring an impressive 3.1 FPPG. He is also batting .556 (10 for 18) with 7 RBI lifetime vs. Latos.

    OF Christian Yelich (MIA) vs. ATL (Alex Wood) for $2900: Yelich has a 9 for 22 mark vs. Wood and is hitting in the heart of the Marlins order, which is a bonus for a $2900 FD salary. Yelich still hasn’t got into form after a DL stint, but had a good game on Friday (3.25 FP) with a hit, walk, and a SB. Look for him to build on this against Wood at home where he is 7 of 23 (.304) this season.
