Washington Wizards star Paul Pierce uncertain if he’ll return for the next NBA season.

The Washington Wizards played a tough series against the Atlanta Hawks, mainly thanks to some clutch shots from Paul Pierce. He almost forced the game to go to overtime with a physics-defying shot that tied the game up at the buzzer.

After further review he didn’t get the shot off in time and it was waved off and the Hawks won the game and the series.

But after such an incredible performance in the series you’d have to think that Pierce would return to the NBA next year, showing no signs of slowing down in the playoffs.

It isn’t so cut and dry for Pierce, who is reportedly unsure on whether he’d return next year.

How can a man who just made this ridiculous shot that nearly forced overtime consider retiring.

These comments weren’t new, Pierce talked about ending his storied career last night after the game.

“I haven’t really thought about it,” Pierce said. “I don’t even know if I am going to play basketball anymore. These seasons get harder and harder every year, every day. Summers get even harder when you start getting back in shape. I’m 37 years old. I’m top two or three oldest in the league.”

It is easy to understand why he’d want to retire, but man we’d love to see him in the playoffs once more.

Is there a basketball version of pulling a Brett Favre? Can Pierce retire then come back after the All-Star break to play with the team and make another playoff run?
